THE WITCH BOY

We’ve got our grimoires out and we’re ready to learn! This week we’re discussing WITCH BOY, a young adult graphic novel by Molly Knox Ostertag.

Teenaged Aster is a boy growing up in a family of witches and shapeshifters whose strictly held gender roles would forever deny him the chance to study the art of witchcraft.

But with the help of his new mortal friend Charlie, Aster looks for a way to follow his heart (and his growing talent) without losing his family along the way.

We dive deep on this one, discussing our feelings about gender, equality, and how today’s political climate affects so many kids growing up in the US right now. Jump in with us, but don’t break your leg! We haven’t learned that spell yet.
